Bob Mater is a multi-genre, reading drummer who plays on large ensemble, jazz, and big band recordings, has performed on nearly 900 tv shows and network specials, and is well represented on roots records. He is currently the drummer with the Nashville Jazz Orchestra. Album credits include: Americana rocker Pat McLaughlin, powerhouse blues singer Tracy Nelson, bluegrass royalty the New Grass Revival, western swing hall of famer Ray Price, cowboy rocker Michael Martin Murphy, trad folk stars Maura O’Connell and Jesse Winchester, Christian legend Sandy Patti, bluegrass super group Dailey and Vincent; Alabama, Chet Atkins, and the one and only Dolly Parton. He has played on Grammy winning and Grammy nominated CDs which include: Mark O’Conner, Riders in the Sky, Lynn Anderson, Jo’el Sonnier, and The Grascals – and has toured and recorded with retro-pop originals Brenda Lee, Cliff Richard, and the Everly Brothers.

Band member evolves into studio chameleon. Along the way I learned to read standard notation and Nashville number charts, but still love to play by ear and find the right part.

I’ve played on lots of jingles, helping promote boots, trucks, cars, fast food, sports franchises, theme parks, aquariums, hospitals and more.

I’ve played on lots of demos and artist projects. Also music libraries for broadcast and school music curriculum. Also kid’s musical theater adaptations of broadway shows and movies. Church music for kids and and praise and worship.

I’ve done live-to-tape TV (Crook and Chase on the RFD-TV network 2008).

I have toured the U.S., Canada and Europe as a sideman with the Joe English Band, Greg Volz, The Gaither Vocal Band, Randy Matthews and others.
