David Hobbs
David Hobbs is currently in his seventh season as the principal trumpeter of the Chattanooga Symphony & Opera Orchestra. A native of Mississippi, he grew up in northern Alabama and pursued his musical education at Louisiana State University. While a member of the Baton Rouge Symphony, he was selected the winner of the college division of the Louisiana Young Artists competition and as a result performed as soloist with the New Orleans Philharmonic. His brass quintet, the Acadiana Brass, was chosen as the first student player/coaches for the prestigious Empire Brass Quintet Symposium, hosted by the Tanglewood Music Festival.
David has appeared with numerous orchestras including the Baton Rouge Symphony, the Alabama Symphony and the Ohio Light Opera. In addition, he has also been associated with the Meridian, Tuscaloosa and Huntsville Symphony Orchestras. In 1987 he began an affiliation with the Mr. Jack Daniel’s Original Silver Cornet Band as cornet soloist. In this capacity, he toured and performed concerts encompassing the breadth of the United States. David has recorded five CDs with the band, as well as appearing on the Good Morning, America news program.
David is also the principal trumpeter of the Nashville Chamber Orchestra. In 2003, he was featured with the NCO on their Grammy Award winning CD Kid Pan Alley. He also toured with the orchestra as part of the 2003-2004 Simply Christmas show, featuring Amy Grant and Vince Gill. David is also active as a recording artist, performing in the Nashville studios for many Christian recording labels. In 1990, he began performing regularly with the Nashville Symphony. He has recorded for NAXOS with the orchestra and recently appeared during the opening gala concert of the Schermerhorn Symphony Center, later broadcast nationwide on PBS.
Mr. Hobbs has former affiliations with the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga music department and with Covenant College. He currently resides in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.
